Nicaragua is the poorest country in Central America and the second poorest in the Western Hemisphere, there is widespread underemployment and poverty. Approximately 30 percent of the population lives on less than $2 per day. In rural areas, poverty rates are especially high, where 50% of households live in extreme poverty. This leaves very little to no funding for animal companions.

Impact
Provide a facility to assist underserved animals and people
In educating future Veterinarians we will prevent needless deaths and illnesses
Sterilization programs are critical for management of overpopulation and related disease control concerns. Spay/neuter is the only permanent, 100 percent effective method of birth control for dogs and cats
Vaccination programs will combat the spread of diseases some of which can be spread to people
Create instrumental cultural changes in the way that animals are considered within the country
Better overall health for both humans and animals
