Faran Derek Dometz Taylor LMV

Chief Veterinarian

Dr. Faran Dometz has been devoted to animal welfare since he was a child. He was Born on Oct 1983 in Pearl Lagoon on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. Growing up in a rural community he quickly realized his passion for animals. After graduating high school he pursued a professional baseball career with the Houston Astros Farm system in Venezuela. Completing a 4-year trial he realized it was not his true calling. Upon returning to Nicaragua he enrolled at the National Agrarian University (UNA) in Managua where he successfully graduated as a Veterinarian Class of 2010.

Dr. Dometz was now equipped with his degree, enormous heart and an immeasurable amount of passion. He enthusiastically set out to acquire practical experience through various non-for profit sectors within the industry. First he secured a job with Vida which concentrated on sterilization programs for underserved communities. After 4 years with Vida he obtained surgical & clinical skills by volunteering with organizations such as Casa Lupita & RAVS-HSVMA. Moving forward he worked at a private clinic in Granada where he was crucial in assisting the clinic as a start up before setting out to open his own practice.

Dr. Dometz opened his own Vet Clinic in San Juan del Sur and instantly gained the reputation as the best Vet in the area. It was no surprise that within a year of owning his own practice he was approached to join a Vet team on Ometepe Island. He saw this as a better opportunity for his professional career as well as for his family. He joined the Ometepe Vet Clinic as their Lead Veterinarian.

Dr. Dometz strongly maintains the belief that “poor Veterinary care is also a huge animal welfare concern.” He is constantly seeking opportunities for further education and training through mentors, courses, medical books and online Veterinarian websites.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his supportive wife, dog Neska, and rescue cats Tobby and Maximus.
